A Case of Renal Abscess associated with Vesicourteral Reflux in 4-months-old Boy
Kim Kang-Ho

Abstract
Renal abscess is uncommon in pediatrics and is rarely a cause of fever of unknown origin. It presents varying features which often lead to delay or error in diagnosis. It can develop by one to two general mechanisms. In past, hematogenous seeding from bacteremia most often causes a conical abscess. At present, ascending infection, usually due to gram negative organisms, begins in the bladder and ascends to the renal parenchyma. Renal ultrasonography and computerized tomography(CT) are sophisticated and available, permitting 82% to 90% accuracy in diagnosis of renal abscess. It is also useful in establishing percutaneous drainage, which appears to be the treatment of choice. We reported a case of 4-month-old boy with renal abscess in left kidney associated with bilateral vesicoureteral reflux and he was treated successfully with antibiotics alone.
